Our Core Promise

100% No Shopping Stops.
Every Tour. No Exceptions.

Every minute of your China trip belongs to you — not to a factory showroom. We put this in writing, in your contract, before you pay a single dollar.

Why This Promise Matters

Shopping stops are the most common — and least talked about — practice in the China tour industry. Up to 90% of tour operators include them, often without disclosing this clearly. Guides receive cash commissions of up to $50 per head per stop for every person they bring into a store. On an 8-day tour with one stop per day, that's $400 in illegal kickbacks — and someone has to pay for it. That someone is you.

What shopping stops actually cost you: On a typical "conventional" tour, a visit to the Great Wall or Terracotta Warriors is capped at 60–90 minutes to make room for retail detours. On our tours, you get 2–3 hours at each major sight. That's the real cost of shopping stops — not money, but time.

We founded Hello China Guide precisely because we experienced this firsthand. The promise isn't a marketing line. It's the reason we exist.

What "No Shopping" Means in Practice

⏱️

Maximum Time at Sights

Full 2–3 hours at major attractions. No detours. No "quick stops" at jade factories or silk museums.

📄

Written into Your Contract

Our booking agreement explicitly prohibits shopping stops. If it happens, you have it in writing. We stand behind it.

💰

All-Inclusive Pricing

No optional tours, no "local payment" surprises, no hidden extras. What you're quoted is what you pay.

🧭

Guide Accountability

Our local guides' income is entirely separated from your spending. Their job is to show you China — nothing else.

📞

Direct Founder Access

You have a direct line to us throughout your trip. If anything feels off, contact us immediately — we respond within 2 hours.

↩️

Honest Refund Policy

If a shopping stop occurs in breach of our contract, we address it immediately — including partial refunds where appropriate.

3 Ways to Detect a Hidden Shopping Tour

Not every operator is as transparent as we are. Before booking with anyone — including us — here's how to protect yourself.

1

The Price Red Line

Calculate the honest cost of your trip: flights + hotels + entrance fees + meals + guide + transport. For an 8-day private tour of Beijing–Xi'an–Shanghai, a genuine price starts around USD $1,400+. If a tour is significantly below this, it's almost certainly subsidised by shopping commissions. A tour advertised at $799 for 8 days can balloon to $2,000+ once hidden costs emerge.

2

Look for an Explicit No-Shopping Clause

Read the itinerary and terms carefully. If there is no written no-shopping commitment, assume shopping is planned. Ask the operator directly in writing and keep that reply before you book.

3

Watch for Wording Tricks

"No obligatory shopping" and "no forced shopping" are not the same as no shopping. These phrases mean you'll still be taken to stores and your time wasted — buying is just technically optional. Only accept "100% no shopping stops" as a genuine commitment.

What If You Actually Want to Shop?

No-shopping doesn't mean anti-shopping. If you want to browse local markets, pick up authentic tea, silk, or ceramics, or explore a neighbourhood commercial street — just tell us. We'll suggest places that locals actually shop, not factory showrooms with tourist markups.

China also operates an Instant Tax Refund policy for international visitors. At eligible stores, you can receive your VAT refund on the spot — saving roughly 9–11% on qualifying purchases. Our guides can point you to authorised refund stores if you'd like.
