Overview

This 8-day Tibet tour traces a classic pilgrimage route from Lhasa to Mount Everest Base Camp, combining ancient monasteries, high-altitude lakes, and the world’s tallest peak. Travelling by private vehicle with an English-speaking guide throughout, the route runs from the holy city of Lhasa through Gyantse and Shigatse before reaching the Everest region, then returns to Lhasa for a final day of shopping and sightseeing.

In Lhasa, mornings and afternoons are given over to the city’s great monasteries: Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery (known for its courtyard debate sessions among resident monks), the Potala Palace, and the Jokhang Temple, with its surrounding pilgrim circuit at Barkhor Street. On the return leg, Norbulingka, the Dalai Lama’s former summer palace, rounds out the cultural itinerary alongside the Tashilhunpo Monastery in Shigatse, seat of the Panchen Lama.

Between the cities, the route takes in the turquoise waters of Yamdrok Lake and the roadside Karo La Glacier before descending to Gyantse. Beyond Shigatse, the journey continues to Rongbuk Monastery, the highest monastery in the world, for close-up views of Mount Everest’s north face at sunset and sunrise from Everest Base Camp — the highest point of the trip at around 5,200 metres.

Throughout the tour, transport is provided in a private 6-seat camper van, 5-seat SUV, or 7-seat MPV, with vehicle insurance included alongside travel agency liability and accident insurance. Entrance fees for every listed attraction are included, and a dedicated coordinator handles itinerary planning, accommodation arrangements, and any issues that arise along the way.
